funny icons on top of photos

hello,
here's my prob. when my screensaver comes up, some of my photos display with a strange "icon" stretched over the photo. Thankfully the originals are not affected..yet.

These icons seem East Asian in their style. examples are a pink panda, China's flag etc. The icons are probably 72dpi and very small so when stretched to fill the screen they are very pixelated.

My screensaver is selected as the iPhoto Library in system preferences. any ideas? Thanks!

Hello, Dart3,
Welcome to the discussions!
I have not found this particular problem before. Maybe they are from some website you visited and somehow got superimposed on your photos, how is a good question.

I would recommend that you trash your iPhoto preferences plist, repair permissions on your computer, and see if those help.

Go to User-->Library->Preferences->com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Drag that to the trash.

Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Restart your computer, relaunch iPhoto. Then close iPhoto. See what is on your screensaver. If the little icons have not disappeared, post back.

Thanks Beverly-

Seems to be working but the "ghosts" are back, albeit in smaller numbers. Strange condition and I have only seen two posts that have had this problem. Really wierd. I noticed after I ran "Repair Permissions", I had trouble getting Airport to connect. I would get a message that network settings had changed. I eventually got on but does running repair require reinstating settings? I ran it on the computer not the HD icon. Does that matter?

Thanks

I have the same problem on my iMac. When the screen saver runs (seems to happen most often at night, don't know why), there are "ghost" images superimposed upon my iPhoto library pictures. Just as you reported, the original images are not affected, only when shown in the screen saver. The images are the same as you reported, too. "anime"-like pictures of pigs, pandas, etc., and also images of country flags. It definitely seems like some kind of virus (OK, I know Mac's can't get viruses 😉, so let's call it "prank-ware".
