why does my ipod have more songs than my library

I dont use my Ipod a lot but for some reason, my ipod has 416 songs and my library only has 328 songs. This is the third computer I have but everything I read erases my ipod but I dont want to loose the songs. I want to add the songs from the ipod to my computer. Any suggestions
