Portable home directories not working - Help me please!

OK so basics here , Very first attempt at OS X Server (10.8 ML)

I kinda skipped 10.7 and am straight into 10.8

I have set the whole thing up.

  • The server itself
  • Created Local Network Users (now there is a confusing play on words, it makes sense but makes you think twice)
  • DNS is on from setup
  • File Sharing is on
  • Open Directory master created
  • Profile Manager enabled and configured
  • Websites switched on

I have added a laptop to profile manager, assigned it to a group and applied the mobility payload to the group.

It has successfully deployed.

The laptop has the payload as it has a local home.

The problem arises when It goes to sync. It says 'No folders are selected to be synced'

Which isn't true (see screenshots) What am I doing wrong here?

Is it profile manager, permissions or am I missing something entirely?

Any help or pointers greatfully received

It seems like Mobility in Profile Manager has been broken since Lion Server. Use Workgroup Manager to configure PHD.

Thanks for helping tcpudp

I might be being dumb, but in 10.8 you can't add computers or computer groups into workgroup manager, I deffo don't want syncing per user. If anyone can shed some light on my greyed out computer groups in WGM 10.8 any help appreciated

No probs.

You need to bind your computer to your OD master using two ways:

1. manually go to Directory Utility on the client - Services - LDAPv3 - edit - Bind.

2. in your profile manager create a payload for Directory, which I think you've done. Put in the username (diradmin) and password will auto bind it when you push the settings to clients.

Hope this helps.
