I get unknown error (-54) all the time when trying to update Match or Genious

This also happens when trying to update Genius

This is a new MacBook Pro Retina with all SW up to date & iTunes 10.6.3

I also cannot sync to my iPhone or iPad = time out issue when trying to copy musict to the device

iPhone & iPad are all up to date with the latest version iOS.

My iTunes library is large = ~110GB & I did move it over from a PC.

I can not deauthorize my old PC.

Any clue?

When trying to update Genius & iTunes Match, I always get this error the same time as iTunes has gathered all the info & has just started sending it to iTunes:

"We could not complete your iTunes Store request.

An unknown error occured (-54)

There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later"

I always get this error no matter when I try.

I went to the Apple Store & they could not help me even with an appointment 😟

Their guess is that it has something to do with the SW on this Apple Macbook Pro Retina notebook.

We tried creating a different iTunes account on this notebook & that received the identical error.

I did try Genius & Match from a different Mac notebook, but without my library & there is no error.

This notebook has worked for ~1 hour since I got it new about a week ago & I've had this notebook for 2 weeks now.

Genius & Match both work on my PC notebook, but for some reason my iPhone or my iPad will not sync. I always get Time Outs and the Sync never completes -> message that the Sync is finishing forever or until I unplug my USB cable.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank You,

Kim

I found the solution to this on another forum. I was able to fix this by manually disabling the firewall on my mac. From the command line:

sudo ipfw disable firewall

Match will then run fine until I do the corresponding enable or restart the computer.

I don't understand enough about the internals of the mac to know why changing this using the Terminal is more effective than simply disabling the firewall from settings, but it is. If you run this command line, it will make the -54 error go away.
