Yamaha o1v96 as a control surface

I have been trying for quite some time now to get my Yamaha O1V96 to work as a control surface in FCP (latest version).

It is connected with Midi over USB. This Midi works fine, as the standard Yamaha software does communicate over Midi with the mixer.

Anyone has experience with this mixer? Or any helpful hints?

you need to first ascertain whether this mixer supports the Mackie Control Protocol. if it doesn't then its not going to work with FCP.

if it does support the Mackie protocol, then thats your first clue ... you need to configure it as such

Yamaha calls the Mackie protocol the HUI. However, no matter what protocol I use in the Yamaha, none works. Ie. it support Logic protocol, which is also an option in FCP, but still no sign...

Mackie Control Protocol and HUI are separate protocols ... both developed by Mackie, but definately not the same thing.

at this time, FCP only supports control surfaces via the Mackie Control Protocol, it doesn't yet support Logic Control or HUI Control etc.

for a Mackie Control Protocol control surface you can look at Behringer BCF2000, Tascam FW1802, Mackie Control Universal or others

Thanks for your explanation, one detail: FCP gives the option Logic in the settings for control-surfaces. And the mixer has this option as well. But still no sign of connection.

i must have been asleep, you're quite correct. according to the manual ...
"Final Cut Pro supports Mackie and Logic Control, as well as Mackie and Logic Control XT control surfaces"

could it be something to do with the "XT" thing?

😉 I am into it quite deep, unfortunately. As for the logic-thing: Somehow FCP does not keep the "Logic"-setting saved, or automatically changes it back to Mackie again. Same with the XT....

Could this somehow inspire anyone?

I used the way described in your link, but no result. Midi is configured fine, as a standard yamaha-tool does link to the mixer, over Midi.

so Leo
when you go into FCP under Tools > Control Surface...
you see one icon only (your Yamaha o1v96) right?
then when you double click it what options are available under the input and output port popups?
can you post a screen shot?
