no one knows yet why this is happening to some users. a lot of people are having the same problem.
It seems to break down into two groups. 1) a rogue process, 2) unknown cause that Apple is reportedly working to determine.
Since an unknown number of these reports turn out to be caused by a background process running wild, it is worth checking out. It is also worth turning off PowerNap in the battery energy settings. To check for rogue processes, open the Activity Manager and keep an eye on the CPU usage. If there is any process that seems to be using a large amount of processor cycles without reason, that could be your problem.
seems that 10.8.1 update solves the problem. my mbp-15 late 2011 using 10.8 lasted 1 h 45 mins, after 10.8.1 upgrade is showing 3 h 30 mins

What 10.8.1 update? There has been no public release of this, as of this date.
10.8.1 has just been released today. Go and try it.
How much time remaining if you unplug your MBA after fully charged?
Indeed I have, within minutes of its release.
The 10.8.1 update does not address the OP's issue. Perhaps 10.8.2 may.
Apple have just released this to Developers so give it a week or so and im sure it will be out to the public.
no one knows when 10.8.2 will be released, but I can hardly imagine that they will only give it a week to test it out before mass release.
Apple only released 10.8.1 to Developers then 'a week or so later' it was released to the Public. I published a post of my Blog on the 14/08/2012 RE Apple seeding the release to developers and it was released today... so i would call that a week or so, would you?
They have already tested it out, hence the release to developers?
my battery gets insanely hot too, it will heat up to 65c and i only have safari running with like three tabs. Before the mountain loin update I was getting 5+ hours of battery and it ran cool.
Do you mean 10.8.2 will be out soon? because I still have battery issue with 10.8.1.
My battery was draining fast too. Also too hot like redfarsi. Took it back to Apple today. Diagnostic process said all was well - but I had taken a screen shot of MBA 100% charged with 3.30 time, no applications running. Told them that was unacceptable as it was half the advertised time. They are replacing battery, logic board and I/O board at zero cost.
@chhk this is a software issue and they have salvaged 50%+ of your laptop. I think that the best thing to do is either go back to lion or wait for 10.8.2. If you continue using the laptop it will deteriorate the cells in the battery (I guess you might qualify for a new battery a couple months from now) .
OK everyone. 24 hours later and all parts replaced. No insane heat and a proper battery life. Early days of course... As a bit of an experiment I downloaded ML onto my Mid 2010 white Macbook. Same Apple ID so no charge. It's behaving properly, 5.5 hours @74%. Will keep you all posted if either dips again.
