Q: HD movie and tv show files won't play in iTunes 10.6.3.

Just did a fresh install of Mountain Lion and for some reason now HD movie and tv show files won't play.  I get a black screen.

Standard Def tv shows and movies are still playing fine though.

Oh and  yes I already tried switching it to 32-bit mode via the "Get Info" screen.  Same problem results.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue with HD playback, except instead of a black screen I get a weird display issue with parts of a safari window (even if it's been closed) flickering through in low res but mainly green/pink flashing.

I think I have the same problem. Every time I play some HD movies in iTunes the movie seems to be stuck and the screen black. If I scrub the movie forward I can see the picture, even captions, but I can't play them. I said some because there are certain movies that DO play. I mean HD ones, SD video plays fine. But I couldn't find any clue. It's not a matter of file size, neither a matter of resolution, compressio... I'll wait for an update (system and/or iTunes) and if nothing happens I think I'll dig a little more. This is no big issue for me since they ALL seem to play perfectly when I select AirPlay to my Apple TV.

    I'll try checking tags

So it gets weirder, turns out I can play the original HD, copy protected, downloaded file IF I do it through iTunes in Windows running on a Parallels virtual machine (on the same Mac) - to do this I needed to use up another 'authorisation' for the Windows iTunes.

So, a virtual Win7 machine running iTunes for Windows, on new Mac hardware can play the file I dowloaded through iTunes on the Mac but the Mac can't do it natively.

This has to be more widespread than just few folks here? It looks like a major graphics/HDCP incompatibility?

I am having the same issue. Its weird because when I first installed Mountain Lion it was fine and now the HD movies don't play.

I am having the same issue as well.  I just purchased HD iTunes content on my mountain lion upgraded MacBook 5,2 (early 2009 MacBook) and it won't play.  I am running iTunes 10.6.3 under 64 bit.

The sound will come on, but the display will just be a white and gray check.  SD content won't play as well.  SD and HD content that isn't from the iTunes store will play fine.  However, both iTunes SD and HD content streamed from the MacBook to AppleTV (version 2) will stream and play on the AppleTV just fine.

I am talking about content purchased and downloaded directly from the iTunes store.
