how do i play iTunes playlists on sonos system

I have a Sonos system.I have copied the itunes folder on the NAS drive so that I can play my itunes music via the sonos system, this works fine. However how do I get my playlists to play? Sonos manual and support tell me to copy the itunes music libary.xml file to the to the shared drive (NAS) where the music is stored. This I have done but still cannot play the playlists. Help. If I do get a reply can you make it simple with regard to computer speak. Thanks

Hi periferal

Have not been able to solve this problem. Apple blame Sonos and Sonos blame Apple. Between them they have not any answer. According to Sonos it is a simple matter of getting the .xml file which resides in iTunes and copy this to the iTunes folder (in my case) on the NAS drive. Done this still no good. All the music plays ok but not playlists. If Spotify can make everything work on Sonos why not Apple. Can not also get iTunes to play from my iPad via the line in cable to the back of Sonos play5, but strangely enough I can get a very old mp3 play to work faultlessly. Also tried to get the playlists stored on my iPad to play through the Sonos system via an Apple airport express. Rubbish. This don't work either although Sonos says it can. All seems to work ok but no sound from the Sonos system.

This is a really bad fault with a good system which one would think could be solved but between Sonos and Apple no such luck. If someone out there could solve this they could make a lot of money. I hope you find a way. Let me know if you do.

Very frustrated and annoyed Barry.

Hi barryf48,

Ok, so I figured it out. You have to basically replicate the path on the NAS (mirroring your computer's path to those songs). So for instance here is the path on my Mac for my music:

/Users/Peripheral/Music/Music

To get it to work on my TimeCapsule, you have to replicate the path after the Volume/Device Name

\\Volumes\PeriphDesign TC\Users\Peripheral\Music\Music

You can see how I follow the initial path with \Users\Peripheral\Music\Music

Just make sure your .XML file is in that folder that your referencing. All should be fine. Let me know if you still have issues.

Hi guys, I asked Sonos this very question and they came back with this:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Sonos Support. For Sonos to work, just 1 of our components need to be wired to your router/network. The other components will work wireless with the 1 wired component. Please make sure you have an Apple Express with at least 2 ethernet ports, because the Apple Express with one 1 port is incompatible.

Please reply and let me know if you have more questions.

To me this sounds like you need to plug the Sonos bridge into the router and also plug the bridge into a Airport Express.... I might be wrong?

But I love the idea of Sonos, looks and sounds great.

Currently I use a simple airport express terminal I brought 6 years ago and plug it into the stereo system using a phono to phono cable and then use the iphone as a remote to switch music (imac is upstairs in bedroom which has a Sony speaker plugged into it.

To get music in another room jusy buy a new airport express+good speaker...
