Software stops working on sleep (Handbrake)

I used to set-up movies to be converted to iPad format for my kids using Handbrake, and because of the system resources it would eat up, I would set this up to rund just before going to bed so it could run overnight -- the movies would be ready in the morning.

For some reason, using with my upgrade to Mountian Lion X, this program will no longer run overnight, it will stop running douning sleep mode. Is there just a new setting I need to click? Really frustrating.

Any help or advice is welcome.

I'm having the same problem. I used to leave my Mac at nights converting movies so I can use them on my iPad. But for some reason this new Mountain Lion Software is not letting me do this anymore. As soon as my Mac go to sleep the computer stop everything and doesn't work on anything till you wake up the system again. Its really painful and is ******* me off. Does apple know about this? Why they did this, is like going backwards in technology.... I think I will have to install the LION again.

I did figure this out wit the help of the0pticnerve. Let me patest it all together for you:

First,

 > System Preferences > Energy Saver

Then, when in Energy saver, you need to make sure "Put hard disk to sleep when possible" is unchecked for both Battery and Power Adapter.

That worked for me. I am not sure if this is the "perfect" solution, but it works for the Handbrake at night issue. Your hard disk will never be put to sleep unless you close the computer.

I may have been confusing the "Battery" vs the "Power Adapter" setting, because, it would seem to me that you would only need to unchek the "put the hard disks to sleep" for the "Power Adapter" assuming we all have the powere adapter plugged in when we leave handbrake on over night. But, I kept ketting them confused, so I checked the box for both.

Hope that helps.

Again, make sure "Put hard disk to sleep when possible" is unchecked for both "Battery" and "Power Adapter" In the Energy Saver of System Preferences and you should be okay!
