Upgrading Mac OS X 10.6

I notice that software products older than Mac OS X 10.6 are not highlighted on the upgrade screens. Does this mean that they can not be upgraded? I have Mac OS X 10.58 and would like to upgrade but I do not see that as an option.

iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.5.8)

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
