unreadable files

I attempted to import my photos from an Olympus Stylus to my Mac via iPhoto and have done this multiple times using the same USB cable without problems.

Now half way through importing my recent vacation photos, the import is interrupted by "unrecognizable file" and gives me the photo with the usual .jpg extension. What is the problem here?
