Will time capsule save all my pictures?

I just added an external drive and turned on TIME CAPSULE. The main purpose is to protect my picture files.

Is this good enough or should I take other steps to protect my pics?

As long as wherever your pictures are located hasn't been excluded from the Time Machine backup (you can check under the Options in Time Machine) you can rest assured your pictures have been backed up - assuming you have done a Time Machine backup. You say that Time Capsule is turned on but I'm assuming you mean you turned on Time Machine - which is the actual backup option in Mac OS X.
