How to apply a footer to many slides ?

I googled here and elsewhere and consulted the docu to no avail:

Im in the process of propagating all my power-point lectures to keynote. In keynote I have a master with a title-line at the bottom (vulgo "footer"). However, if I open a power-point presentation and copy-paste slides into my new empty keynote presentation, powerpoint footers are lost.

So my question is: how can I apply a footer (all slides same string) and a page number to all slides with a few clicks ??

Just put whatever you want on the master slides of your Keanote presentation.

Chose View:Show Master Slides

You can then chose your master slides on the left above your actual slides. Put everything you like on the master and it will appear on all slides that are using the master.

Well, not quite. If I re-apply a master which e.g. contains a text field at the bottom resembling a PowerPoint-footer, it is correct that this field appears on all slides. However, those fields are empty and have to be filled slide by slide, while in PowerPoint changing the footer changes all footers on all slides simultaneously.
