Headphone Plugin Plays Buffered Sounds

I'm having a strange issue with my Retina MacBook Pro (aside from the well known heat and power issues). Whenever I plug in a pair of headphones the machine will play, in sequence, all of the noises that have occured since it was last shutdown/put to sleep. For example, If I've gotten a bunch of emails in Mail and sometime later I plug in a pair of headphones, all of the "new message" sounds will play one after another. It seems to occur for all system related sounds, whether they already played through the speakers originally, or if the machine was muted.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Definitely something wrong with the audio.

This happens to mine too. MBP retina 2.6 GHz using Bose headphones with mic and button. I haven't tried any other headphones.

I'm using a rather stock install without having migrated or restored any time machine backups.

I notice that something is wrong when I send emails and don't hear the wooshing noise... then when I plug headphones in I hear all of the wooshing sounds back-to-back as well as any bell sounds too.

Curious if this is hardware or Mac OSX.

Like I said before, I think it's an issue with the switching that goes on when detecting that headphones are plugged in. Also, I'm hearing the sounds perfectly fine when they are not plugged in. Zeroio, you might want to check that your sound is not muted. Keep in mind that the volume levels are different when the headphones are plugged in and when they aren't and are switched automatically.

I have a MacBook Air mid-2012 and I've got exactly the same problem. Whenever I plug-in my headphones, for the first few seconds I will hear a sequence of all the notification sounds that have occurred since the last time I plugged-in the headphones.

Clearly, it is a bug and I find it startling that they still haven't come up with any solution.

I've found some threads about this very same issue, but apparently in none of them they've been able to sort it out.

Anyone has some good ideas as to this?
