I have no Serial Number on my Macbook, why?

I have no Serial Number on my Macbook, why?

I bought my macbook 2+ years ago at an Apple Authorized Retailer (Best Buy) On the bottom of it as well as in the "about" section there is no Serial Number. I called Apple tech support and the lady had no clue why this might be. It says under the "About" section for serial number: System Serial#, and on the bottom of the notebook there is nothing written in refernce to the Serial # at all. Any other place i might find it or a reason why my macbook might not have one? I am running Leopard on it currently.

If no serial number is reported that usually means the computer's motherboard was replaced. Was this a refurbished unit? If the computer has a user replaceable battery then remove the battery and see if there is a serial number plate in the battery compartment.

It was brand new, I don't know why best but would sell refurbished at full retail price. As for the battery, I don't see an easy way to get to it without unscrewing the shell.

You don't have a user-replaceable battery, so there is no battery compartment. What occurs when you select About This Mac from the Apple menu? You should initially see:
