Aug 14, 2012 8:38 AM in response to Kappyby posborne,no, I have mountain lion now which no longer uses the updater application. (all updates have been installed anyway) In addition, that is not the same problem... my track pad works, but gives unpredictable results after a few minutes of use.

Aug 22, 2012 3:06 PM in response to posborneby crgmisc,I am curious, is the noise when you click really loud?
-
Aug 22, 2012 3:31 PM in response to crgmiscby posborne, this problem is less related to clicking and more related to barely touching the trackpad. By "noise" I meand erratic cursor movement.

Sep 2, 2012 4:06 AM in response to posborneby mvial,I just bought a MBP Retina 2.3 Ghz and I have The same problem: trackpad just gets erratic moves. It seems Apple has not addressed this issue yet...

Sep 2, 2012 9:41 AM in response to posborneby tdinneen,I'm having the same issue. I have mountain lion installed for a while now and just yesterday the trackpad went crazy (nothing new installed recently). The click works but the mouse just jumps all over the place or sometimes doesn't move at all. It's completely unusable now and I've had to revert back to my old MacBook :-(
Booted into the recovery partition and had the same issue. So I assume it's a firmware problem. Tried installing the trackpad 1.0 update (took 15 mins to lauch safari, download the update and try and click on it, that's how bad the trackpad is) but that was for 10.7 and it won't let me install it.

Sep 3, 2012 7:47 AM in response to posborneby Rolando Mota,Same problem here, it has only happened 5 - 6 times so far, and it last around 30 - 45 seconds each time, i can't stand it thou.

Sep 4, 2012 6:17 PM in response to Rolando Motaby AdamNJ77,It happened to me too. I took it to the Apple store on 14th St. in Manhattan and they sent me home with a brand new one. Within 5 minutes, I noticed it did the same exact thing as the one I took back. At least I now know it's a software problem, and not a hardware defect. Hopefully they address this soon

Sep 6, 2012 11:24 AM in response to posborneby tdinneen,So, cleaned the trackpad and let it dry over night. The next day I had the same issue. Cleaned it again and let it dry for 3 days and now it's fine.
