How do I update the Java Applet Plug-in in Firefox?

Hi,

I am using:

- Macbook Pro with osx 10.7.4

- Firefox 11.0 for mac (version is up-to-date)

In Firefox, in the plugins page I click on the link on top of the page to check whether my plugins are up-to-date or not.

A new page is opened with link "https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/" that shows me how my firefox plugins are doing.

In case of the Java Applet Plugin it show me the status "vulnerable" and the red button to update that plugin.

I click on that button and come to the java.com page called "Java Downloads for All Operating Systems".

There are updates for all operating systems with the exception of APPLE!!!

I tried to update the Java version by using the Apple menu -> Software Update. But everything is just fine, no updates!

I downloaded the newest Java version from the Apple website called "JavaForOSX.dmg" and install it. All fine.

But the Java Applet plugin version is still the wrong one.

PLEASE: Can someone let me know what I am doing wrong???

THANK YOU!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), 4GB RAM

I did. Java applet plug-in and Web Start applications check box is set (so active).

Below I see a list of 2 items of Java SE 6, one 64-bit and the other 32-bit.

The Security register is empty.

In the Network register Network Settings is set to "System Settings". "Keep temporary files for fast access" are set. The compression level for JAR files is set to None. Amount of disk space for temp files is set to 1000MB.

In the Advanced register have have the following:

Shortcut Creation: Prompt user if hinted

Java console: Do not start console

Debugging: No checkbox is set here

Security: the checkboxes set are:

- Allow user to grant permissions to signed content

- Allow user to grant permissions to content from an untrusted authority

- User certificates and keys in browser keystore

- Don't prompt for client certificate selection ...

- Warn if site certificate does not match hostname

- Show sandbox warning banner

- Allow user to accept JNLP sec. requests

- Enable blacklist revocation check

- enable cashing password for authentication

- User SSL 3.0

- User TLS 1.0

Verify mixed security code: Enable - show warnings

Is there something wrong?

Thank you!

Thank you so far for the advices!

OK, the 32-bit Java is not on top of the list.

The Java check link shows that my Java is working, the system is using Java SE 6 Update 33, the Java architecture is 32-bit.

Again I checked the plugins of Firefos and it still shows that the Java Applet plugin is vulnerable and that I have to update it!

Anything I should do?

Thanks

Well, that's the latest there is. Apple thinks it's ok, so hasn't put out a new update. Must be so cause we had a major issue with a trojan that made its rounds earlier this year, so Apple would scarcely risk another PR firestorm. Also, just checked with http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ and it shows the 1.6.0.33 Java plugin to be up to date.

Note that after the trojan problem I mentioned, the Java plugin will be disabled by default. Must go into the Preferences app to enable when needed. And when enabled, will auto-disable if unused after awhile for security reasons.
