Reinstall of BC/W7 doubled the Used size.

I successfully created a 20 GB BootCamp partition on my MacBook Pro and installed Windows 7.

Then I realized (duh) that my Windows partition needed more space for applications.

Using BC, I uninstalled W7 and undid the original partition.

I started over, created a 90 GB BootCamp partition, and successfully installed Windows 7.

The problem/puzzle is that "Get Info" now tells me that the BOOTCAMP volume has

Capacity: 90.14 GB

Available: 50.56 GB

Used: 39,577,968,540 bytes (39.58 GB on disk)

Why does the new installation have more than twice the disk use of the first installation? I didn't write down the first install's disk use, but it wassuccessful in a 20 GB partition.

This is my first time using Boot Camp, and I thought I was following instructions.

Those are normal numbers.

RAM takes up hibernation file and your page file is likely too large.

20GB is not "successful" in our books, it is barely the size of the OS itself w/o anything else.

Thanks, hatter.

The BootCamp guide didn't provide any numbers for sizing the partition, it just said "see your Windows installation guide." I downloaded the ISO instead of purchasing discs, and I didn't have an "installation guide." Looked online for the space the OS needed, didn't see anything about .sys files.

Well, it's fixed now, if I may call this "successful"....

There is a misleading article: 20GB size for Windows 7 64-bit.

What it does not say is all the other things that go on TOP of that.

10GB for all the updates.

SSD will need 10% for BGC and TRIM

page is usually way too large today

hibernation - got 16GB? then that file will be 16GB

cache

temp

programs

account profile (3GB is not unusual)

To resize: could have used CampTune $20

ISO: if you just burn the file to DVD with Disk Utility it may or may not boot or install or continue to function and just crapoutanddie... 2x slowest burn speed is what we have learned to ask people to do.

This would have been useful to me the first time through!

ISO - BootCamp copied it to a Flash Drive; that should be fine, yes?

So, I'll see how this goes. I wanted a Mac, that's why I bought this box. I don't anticipate spending the majority of my time in the BC partition. I need Windows for many applications in my field.

Thanks for helping me through the info overload.
