Lost pictures

after having imported pictures from My Pictores in Finder to iPhoto 11, I moved them from My Pictures to the paper basket.

Later I identified in iPhoto, that most of the key pictures of the folders are black, inside most of the thumbnails are black. And opening by clicking on thumbnails results also in a black picture. But all embedded information of the pictures are still there.

I tried to recover the mediathek and also the thumbnails, without result.

Importing other pictures leads to the similar results, I can see thumbnails, but only black pictures behind.

What happened and what to do?

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

When you try to edit your "Black Pictures", do you see just a black window, or also warning triangles, like this?

User uploaded file

If you see the warning triangle, you may have deleted the original image files, that iPhoto needs, when you moved the imported images to the Trash.

Check the iPhoto Preferences - the "Advanced" panel. The flag "Importing - Copy items to the iPhoto Library" should be enabled; otherwise you do not actually import the images. If this flag has not been set while importing, you need to put the images back from the Trash exactly where your deleted them from.

But if the flag had been set correctly during import, try to rebuild your iPhoto library (Mediathek in German): Hold down the key combination option/alt-cmd ⌘⌥ while you double click iPhoto to lauch. Then you will see the library first aid panel. select "Rebuild Database"
