USB Speakers Silent after Sleep

I have the uCube Digital USB Speakers, and from reading other forums, other forms of USB speakers have this problem as well. Whenever I wake my computer from sleep (default sleep setting, fresh Mountain Lion install), the speakers no longer work, and I am required to unplug and replug the USB connection to make them work again.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Got the same prob (Creative XFi); some more detail: After the wakeup the XFi receives commands, but doesn't switch on the actual sound. The XFi has a button to set effects, that one does NOT work when in this mode, but mute works ... go figure.

The thing is, this worked in 10.6 ! As far as I remember 10.5 or 10.4 had the same issues, which I blamed on Creative at first (which they denied;-) .

Now it is back and I wonder if anybody at Apple notices ?

This is the response I received from UltraLink (manufacturers of uCube):

In some instances, changes introduced by the manufacturer to a computer¹s

operating software, may require that you unplug and re-connect your UCube

speaker¹s USB connection before continuing to enjoy UCube¹s superior

performance.

We are investigating other ways to deal with this condition and will post a

more effective solution on our website when this is available.

Again, have my hopes up for 10.8.2 to address this. I suggest filing a bug report, since they probably aren't reading this message board: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I'm having the exact same problems after I upgraded from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5. My external UCube speakers don't work after I wake the computer from sleep mode. But if I unplug them and plug them back in...they work again. That excuse from Cheryl Fisher is lame. Unplugging and plugging back in is ridiculous? I hope they figure this out soon.

OK, still no dice. I have tried repairing permissions and replacing the USBAudio kext. Here is what I am guessing:

- USB ports will not provide power after sleep, unless they get a "request" for power, like charging your iPhone. Since the speakers are passive, that USB port doesn't "power up".

Not sure how to work around that either. Anyone have any other ideas?

Miggl,

That actually sounds like a logical explanation for this issue.

I suggest we keep hounding Apple in their bug fix requests and emails to them. I did get a response back from Cheryl Fisher of Ufi UCube Speakers. She says she's been trying to work with Apple to get this solved. I suggest we contine to contact Apple and Ufi UCube speakers. They would have more of an influence than we do. I know Cheryl is trying to work with them...but the more people that complain...the quicker things get done.

Send your issues to Cheryl Fisher at: info@ufiproducts.com (and) service@ufiproducts.com (I'm not sure which email gets to her quicker). And continue to send email to tech support at Apple. They HAVE to know about this issue.

They are giving you a bunch of BS. I've not only posted in the forums...but I've contacted Apple Support online and I know the Cheryl Fischer from Ufi UCube has been in touch with Apple to resolve the issues because it directly affects their product. I dont know what to do. I've since unplugged them and are just using the built-in speakers. I can't make Apple do anything, unfortunately.
