You need to have an exact copy of each iTunes Library on each computer. You must authorize both computers using the same Apple ID.

I thought I had done that.  Do you just go into the menu and "authorize this computer" or is there more to it?

If the iTunes Libraries on each computer are identical, then simply authorize each computer being sure to use the same Apple ID. You can then sync the Touch with each computer, after which you need to be sure each computer has an identical library. If you sync only on one computer, then you should copy the updated library to the other computer.

The ipod touch will sycn with one computer at a time.

Syncing to another will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.

But not if both computers have identical copies of the iTunes Library.

In case Kappy's message isn't clear you need the same set of database files on both computers, not just the same media files. The way I manage this is with SyncToy 2.1. In my case I'm using a computer at home, another at work and a portable drive moving between them. SyncToy helps me keep the three copies updated and working as mutual backups to each other. I can sync my devices from any copy of the library. I could even hook up the portable version to any computer running the same build of iTunes and update devices if I wanted.
