However, it seems like the article is out of date and only workable to older version. On ML, the problem remains unsolved yet.
The solution suggested by mende1 requires AirPort Utility 5.6, which is not supported in Mountain Lion. The new version (6.1) does not include a "disconnect all users" option.
I'm having the same problem with the "sparsebundle already in use" error.
Like Paul I too started having the problems about a month after applying Mountain Lion....
I cannot get 5.6 so there has to be another way to bounce time capsule
Perhaps a UNIX command through terminal?

Yes, my Airport Utility is already updated to 6.1 version. At last, I had to reselect the 2T disk in TC and try to overwrite the backup data. Now everything's fine. But dont know whether this sympton will come back some day. Waiting for further update from Apple.
Terminal might help but Im not familiar with that at all. Hope Apple can release the update very soon.
In AirPort Utility 6.1 the Restart command is in the Base Station menu, not under the Base Station pane in the app itself. Bewildering design, but it's there.

I'm running AirPort 6.1 and this fix worked for me on Mountain Lion. Restarted TC through Base Station menu and worked. Thank you! I was looking for a fix.
I am using Airport 6.1 and MAX OS X 10.8.2 on Retina Display Mac. The Base station is greayed out, what can I do?
You have to select your Time Capsule then click edit. Now the restart button should work.
