Q: Aperture: problem when launching

Hi,

I have a problem when launching Aperture. I made two Time Machine backups and saved my Aperture library on 2 external hard drives. Before closing the application, I changed the path of the library to one of HD because it weighs 91 GB and I want to save some space on my MBA's flash hd. I wanted to test the using of a library hosted on an external source and Aperture will not open. I've removed the application with CleanMyMac, downloaded it from the App Store and it just won't open. Can someone help me?

Cheers,

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Can you please explain a little more, how you are trying to launch Aperture, and what exactly happens when you try?

Are you lauching Aperture by clicking the icon in the Dock, from the Launchpad, by clicking the Aperture library? And what happens when you try? Do you get an error message? Does Aperture crash or hang? Or simply no reaction?

Aperture crashes with the following message: check if your OS can run the version of the application. I've tried to launch it from the icon in the Applications folder and it will not work. And I don't think my library is corrupt as I could open it with iPhoto.

Please post the crash log - the first 50 lines should suffice.

HAve you tried opening Aperture while holding down the option key? This will bring up the library choice window, create a new library on your internal drive and see if aperture will start with that.

Also you might want to move Aperture prference file to the desktop and then try opening Apertue. The preference file is  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist.  The Aperturte Basic Troubleshooting page has the instructions to do this

Nothing works . I've tried to start the application holding dow the ALT key, the CMD one and both at the same time. I still get the same error message (see screenshot attached). I have uninstalled everything and trying a fresh new install.Capture d’écran 2012-08-15 à 21.44.46.png

Your system library is corrupted, probably by an installation of Final Cut. The PluginManager framework is missing.

    See the error message:

    Dyld Error Message:

      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager

      Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture

You need to replace the framework by the correct one, and this would best be done by reinstalling your MacOS.

You can reinstall MacOS X Mountain Lion from the Recovery HD: You need a Network connection while you are doing that.

    • Restart your computer while pressing down both the command and R keys at the same time.
    • Once you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
    • Then select "Reinstall OS X" from the Utilities Window.

OS X: About OS X Recovery

OS X Recovery  restores your Mac with a few clicks.

    Hi Léonie,

Your tip worked perfect. I was able to restore my Aperture and now I can manage my library on an external HD. Thanks very much.
