Safari 2.0.1 vs Safari 1.3.2

Hi!
I'm a Portuguese web designer who strives to build pages as universally accessible and compatible with the greatest number of platforms and browsers (including Safari) as possible. I bought a Mac Mini where I maintain 15 different browsers and versions, just for testing purposes. I presently have the Mac OX X(10.3.9) with the Safari 1.3.2. and I would like to know which are the main differences between this Safari version and the newest 2.0.1 version (or at least where I can find this information) so I can evaluate if an upgrade of both the OS and browser justifies itself... I really wouldn't like to do the investment if differences are not so notorious, mainly respecting rendering capabilities (CSS interpretation, web standards conformation and so on).
Thank you very much for your help!

According to Apple, Safari in Tiger is faster than the Panther version. Also, has a number of new features, including RSS feeds. Have a look here for a list of these features (right hand side).

As far as Css Interpretation and Web Standards conformation, from what I've seen Safari v 2 seems to render pages much more cleanly than those in Panther. Haven't seen many complaints recently about unreadable web pages. If there is one area Safari continues to show deficiency it's in the video arena - e.g. still can't utilize Yahoo's video feeds.

Personally, I find Tiger Safari to be much more functional than Panther. IMO certainly worth the upgrade.

Hawaiian_Starman, your answer was helpful, thank you! The link you provided is broken but I suppose that you mean to send me to the [http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/safari> Safari's features page. There I had seen in fact that new Safari is quicker and has RSS reading capabilities. I was looking for some technical specifications, like this one [http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/safari_css.html] that seems to show that there's really no difference between the new and the old versions (?)...
I must say that I´m quite frustrated with the fact that new Safari versions are incompatible with previous OS X versions... As far as I know, Safari is the only browser that does that, which I can only understand as due to economical reasons (trying to make an extra buck exploiting the consumer as much as possible). I once was a devoted Mac user and it was on this platform that I started, back in '92, but I really do not think that Apple made any effort to compensate their faithful users by providing them with lasting hardware or software.

Yeah the link must be cookie driven, hence, it was broken. I always check the links before I select post. Oh well...glad you found the page.

I don't mind paying for upgrades...yet, I understand your point. There ought to be a more equitable way which adequately compensates Apple for their creative software development, while loyal followers receive a meaningful reduction in the retail price.

Thanks for the "helpful".
