hopefuly it will not loose any quality and i would like one that worked with any video formats
even tho im mainlly converting mts to final cut pro

i dont mind if it cost money i just need one that works well and that i can use for alot of video i have already pulled out of my camera before i knew to transfer the whole file so final cut can do the converting -_-
The lovely thing about Final Cut Pro X is not needing to convert. When you import all your media make sure "Create optimized media" in the import dialog window is selected. It will automatically convert it to ProRes 422 all in the background. You can immediately start editing too.
If you'd prefer another avenue, I'd recommend MPEG Streamclip. Completely free and it supports a litany of formats. I would recommend ProRes 422 for your editing format for FCP.
i tried that it says the all the files wont down load . the first half of my filming all i did was extract the mts file and save them in a folder i made on my hard drive and the second half i realized i had to save the whole outer folder so the final cut could convert them which is y i think i need a converter or i heard mayb a codec for the particular camera ? i will probably use stream clip for now tho am i loosing any quality with this software and do those comepanies steal your videos it sounds like a stupid question i am just very sketchy about the internet -_-
Okay from my quick research, it looks like you need to import MTS files with the dialog "Import from camera" instead of just import files.
However if none of this works I'd take the Streamclip route. Technically, yes, any video conversion is going to degrade the quality of your footage, but there's no way around it and the loss will be completely imperceptible to your (or anyone else's eyes). Repeat that conversion 1000+ times then that's a different story.
Squared 5 will absolutely not take (or even be aware of) your footage if you use Streamclip. If you're concerned about it, though, disable your Internet connection during the duration of your file conversion. But I guarantee you, they won't steal anyone's footage nor would they have any need to.
If you want quality, I would recommend converting to ProRes 422 (HQ) at 100% quality with no scaling enabled.
