Q: Lost iPod Touch - how to protect it?

My daughter left her iPod Touch somewhere in the vicinity of a swimming meet, where there was literally a couple of hundred people who could've picked it up, mostly children. I have no idea what I can do remotely to protect it from the person who hasn't handed it back in!

We recently had to reset it to factory settings, and I didn't go into any detail setting up 'find my iPod'. Infact, I don't know if I did it at all.

It has my Apple ID on it since Apple wouldn't let me create one for her due to her being "not old enough".

I don't have her serial number recorded anywhere.

Is there anything else that I can do?

I love the idea that I can lock it remotely, but suspect it is unlikely. Unfortunately this is a 32 GB iPod Touch which I suspect has made somebody else very happy :-(

    - If you previously turned on the FIndMyiPod feature and location service is on, and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud, sign in, and go to FindMyiPhone. It the iPod has been restored it will never show up. The FIndMyiPod feature is off by default.

    - Report to police and change the passwords fro all accounts used on the iPod.

    - Apple will not help

You get points for answering questions around here, right?

    - "I didn't go into any detail setting up 'find my iPod'. Infact, I don't know if I did it at all."

    - "I don't have her serial number recorded anywhere."

If anybody can answer my question about "anything else" that I can do, I would really appreciate it. I feel like it's a bit of a catch 22 because I remember not being able to set up FindMyiPod BECAUSE my children both use my Apple ID (you need iCloud enabled for FindMyiPod, but I don't want them sharing MY everything through iCloud) but Apple won't let me create IDs for them as they are "too young". How am I supposed to protect their devices then?

I am in the process of recovering the serial number from a man who repaired the screen for me in the past.

Is there ANYTHING that can be done to the iPod remotely by using it's serial number alone to identify it?

No. The SN will only identify the iPod as yours if it is recovered.
