hi, when i insert my sd card into the sd card slot nothing happens it doesn't show up even in i photos, i have tried it on anothe ri mac and it works fine, can anyone help?

i can't get my sd card to work in the slot, it doesn't show up, i have tried it on another imac and it works fine. doesnt even show in i photos.
can anyone help, i have done a software update and its made no difference.
