I'm trying to watch my golf swing in slow motion frame by frame, but when I use the arrow keys quicktime advances a few frames at a time. I used to be able to advance it frame by frame on my old computer, why doesn't it work on my new laptop?

Since you did not indicate what compression format is used in your video or which media player you are using to view the file, we can only make guesses at this point. My "guess" would be that you are viewing a Group of Pictutes (GOP) encoded file like an MPEG-2 video using the QT X Player. In this case, the player will only step from one I-frame (Intra-frame) to the next skipping all intervening P- and B-frames. If you have your old QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed on the new laptop, then use either the QT 7 v7.6.6 Player or the MPEG Streamclip app to step through the video using the left/right arrow keys just as you used to do.

I filmed a golf swing with my Casio Exilim at 450 fps and transferred the video to my computer. I opened them in QuickTime and encountered the issue. On my old iMac, I could advance the film frame by frame using the arrow keys but on my laptop it won't.

Not familiar with all of the cameras in this line and, as you didn't give a model number, there is no way to look up additional information. However, assuming the "new" platform is running the QT X player (i.e., you still have not indicated which app you are trying to view the file in), and your "old" system may have had the QT 7 Player installed, then you could try simply installing the QT 7 Player v7.6.6 or MPEG Streamclip as previously indicated. If the problem is merely due to the excessively high frame rate (I.e., if your camera does not shoot "muxed" MPEG-2 video) then these QT 7 based apps should work the same as they did on your older system assuming the new system is properly configured with the correct codec components. (I.e., many Casio cameras use compression formats in the AVI file container which may require the Perian codec package also be installed for proper playback.)

I downloaded Quicktime 7 and that resolved the issue. Thanks for the help!

Glad you were able to get the matter fixed. This is the first I heard of this particular problem. It might be of help to other users if you posted back with the video compression format information and camera model in case other Casio "high-speed" digital camera users run into similar issues.
