Q: The USB connector works ,but the card reader one does not. Is it defective?

I have an iPad 3 . I purchased the camera connector kit. When I put my SD card in the card reader  it does not bring up the pictures but when I use the USB port connector the pictures show up. does that mean that the card reader connector is defective

Is the SD reader firmly inserted, and how did the photos get onto the card ? If you've copied the photos onto the card from your computer (as opposed to the card coming direct from the camera) then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.

Don't quite understand what you did. Can you amplify?

There are 2 CCK adapters - one for inserting an SD card, and USB one for connecting a camera or USB thumb drive.
