Here are the instructions from Apple on changing user short name or home directory name. I've used this on a couple of used MacBooks I've bought on eBay. And remember to go into System Preferences>Sharing and change the Computer Name in there. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428
Thank you very much!
I still ahve a problem.
These are the instructions form the link you suggested,
How to enable the root user
OS X Lion
I see no place to do this.
I see a window that has three entries:
Active directory
LDAPv3
NIS
I don't know what to do here...
I've stayed at Snow Leopard on all my family's MacBooks. Not having any iPhones or iPads or any need for iCloud I've not seen the need for Lion.
The only thing I can think of is when you see the Directory Utility window is that in 10.6 you aren't supposed to do anything with the window other than open the lock and then choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu. Then a drop down window will drop from the top of the Directory Utility window and you choose a password for the Root user. Then you Log Out from the Apple and select Other when it asks you who you want to log in as. When the Name and Password window comes up you log in as root and the password you chose.
Thank you.
I think I will go back to Snow Leopard.
