iTunes can't convert file

There are two songs in my iTunes library, I bought them on iTunes. But when I try to sync them to my ipod I get a warning message stating that the song can't be copied to the ipod because the file could not be converted (see attachment). I've tried converting the song to an MP3 and AIFF version, but still get the same error message. How do I fix this?

This is iPod touch tech specs for audio:

  • Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
  • Audio formats supported: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
  • User-configurable maximum volume limit

I bought it on iTunes, so it already came as a "Purchased AAC audio file". So this original file is what caused the error message, so I've tried converting to the other formats (AIFF and MP3), but still not working. Other thoughts?

I should also note that this is only a problem with my iPod touch. I have an iPod classic as well that seems to sync with the songs just fine. Weird.

I just found part of the problem. In my 'Options' for syncing my ipod touch, I have checked the box "Convert higher bit rate songs to.....". When I unclicked it, it synce fine. Only problem is, songs then take lot more space on my ipod so I can't fit as much on it. iPod classic never had this box checked thus it synced fine. Now I'm messing with the conversion rate to see if that makes a difference.
