Itunes Conflict Resolver sync error: "Unable to retrieve conflict information from the sync server"

I have been using Itunes for years without fail on my Windows Vista 64bit OS, syncing fine with iphone 4, ipad 2, and various ipods.

Recently Itunes has been acting up and will not sync any information (calendars, contacts, notes, bookmarks, mail) due to an apparent failure in the "Conflict Resolver". It will detect numerous conflicts, which is perfectly normal. However, when I try to resolve them, after clicking on multiple individual entries or applying a resolution for all such conflicts, the Conflict Resolver crashes and gives the following error message:

"Cannot Access Conflicts

Unable to retrieve conflict information from the synch server.

Please try again next time the conflict resolver window is presented."

I am no tech wizard, but I have tried every conventional fix, including a full reset and restore of my device, uninstalling Itunes (and all apple components) from my computer and reinstalling, resetting the sync history, and replacing information on the device - under advanced sync settings, with information from the computer.

Nothing works. To make matters worse, this is happening with each of my devices. This leads me to believe the problem is with Itunes -ie a software glitch/bug.

If someone knows of a fix, please advise, it would save a headache. Maybe there is a way to manually delete specific files; maybe it's a corrupted file. But I have seen many posts like this and no solution from Apple, which is troubling. I called customer service and without providing the full service ($30+), the tech hinted at an article which included the fixes that I already tried and which have failed. I don't think even Apple knows what this is. I'm just hoping someone responds or an update with a bug fix comes out quick.

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

I found the fix!!

I was having the same issues for months and was not able to resolve it until last night.

I discovered the solution purely by accident while trying to resolve the issue and it is so simple you will laugh.

CLOSE MS-OUTLOOK

I was looking at all of the recommendaed fix's and I thought to myself, I wonder if the issues is a record lock?

I closed MS-Outlook and ran the Sync again and no conflict sync errors appeared. To test this out again I went to get my iPad and ran a Sync and low and behold no more conflict Sync errors.

Perhaps this solution will work for you also.

All the best!

Dwight

Thanks, DwightM! This has been bugging me for weeks and my own calls to Apple Support were getting me nowhere. I closed Outlook, waited for it to drop out of my system tray, and ran a sync on my iPad 2. It failed! I was disappointed, but for some reason decided to run the sync over again. It worked like a charm. I then hooked up my iPhone 4S, ran sync, and it, too, worked without the error message. I'm not an IT guy at all, so I have no clue why it didn't work the first time, but it's working now. Thanks for sharing the idea! Bill

The fix above works fine you will need to shut down Outlook and sync twice. The first sync after shutting down Outlook gives the same error message but goes away on the second sync.

I started Outlook again and the problem returns however I did notice that the sync is working regardless of the error. I added and deleted contacts from both my iPhone 5S and Outlook and did the sync with the error message but the contact addition and subtraction still happened.

I ended up looking at each of my 25 conflicts, removing the conflicting appt from outlook, then choosing the iphone appt as the one to keep (all of the appointments were old, so I really don't need any of them). This appears to have worked; I've re-synced twice, once after restarting my computer. One thing I noticed: in the middle of troubleshooting this, the phone stopped backing up automatically (maybe it wiill only do it once in an hour or something??), so I hit the "backup now". After I resolved the problem on my iphone, I plugged in my iPad (which was having the same problem), and it synced fine, also.

Now if I could figure out how the he** to find my bookmarked discussions, I'd be over my current frustrations! I followed the breadcrumbs I heard about after the recent changes to this site, but my bookmarks page wont come up...

I tried the manual thing but that for me was a waste of time since I got caught in a conflict resolver unable to connect issue all over again

I found something that should help with old calendar conflicts. Connect your IOS device to iTunes and then click on the device in iTunes and choose Info. This will bring up your Mail client (MS Outlook in my case) sync options. Be sure that the check box for 'Do not sync Events older than XX days" is checked and you get to choose how far back you want iTunes to sync with your Mail client Calendar. I set my value to 30, and then applied the change. My next sync did not raise any old calendar conflicts.

Enjoy...
