Q: How to print with OS 10.8 and Canon LBP 3010?

I have installed OS X Mountain Lion on my MacBook 13 inches that I bought in 2008. I can't print anymore with my Canon LBP 3010 printer. Can anyone help me?

Yes, as soon as I plug the printer. I then install the printer but I don't get cnbma://localhost:59687

Do you mean it only appears when you connect the USB cable to the printer?

Because in my Mac the service is running all the time.

Yes but only because I first delete all the files in order to start with a clean slate. Once it is there is is always there and if I forcequit it in the activity monitor it comes right back. And maybe I should add that I did delete the CAPT launch agent plist and it never came back.

    Okay. Thanks for that.

I am now thinking that your issue is not a result of the CAPT Backgrounder not running, but some other application impacting its operation on the USB port. Do you have a scanner or some other product that connects to the Mac USB?

And is the LBP connecting directly to the Mac, rather than via a USB hub or some other device?

I also think something is interfering but it is not hardware as I have nothing connected. I already tried safe booting to see if that changes anything but to no avail... I'm not sure if safe booting does indeed prevent any third parties extensions from starting... Something is interfering but how come it worked in 10.7...

I don't know. I forgot that you can boot into the 10.7 partition on this same Mac and get it to work.

Is version 3.55 installed on the 10.7 partition or an older version? On my test iMac I also have a 10.7 partition, but I don't have the CAPT driver installed on that partition. I'm just wondering if having the CAPT driver on 10.7 could be the issue?

Well I just installed v3.55 on the 10.7 partition and printed.

I then booted back into the 10.8 partition and could still print.

So I really don't know what is stopping the queue from being created correctly on your Mac.

I'm not in the office tomorrow so I will work on this issue more next week.

Thanks for your help. I have the same problem like areuveni.

    Activity is showing
    CANON CAPT Backgrounder

    and

    CANON PS Backgrounder v3
I can't stop any of this processes...

The UFR2 Backgrounder needs to be running so that the printer queue is created correctly. When it is not running as a process then the print queue will be created as you have shown and this will not print.

As for the Canon PS Backgrounder, do you also print to a Canon imageRUNNER device which supports the Postscript printer language? Because if you only print to the Canon MF series then you do not need the PS driver on the Mac.

To stop the PS Backgrounder you have to delete the file "jp.co.canon.CUPSPS2.BG.plist", which is located in HD > Library > LaunchAgents. With this file deleted, you can restart the Mac. After you log in, if you open Activity Monitor the PS Backgrounder process should not be listed.

I made this some minutes ago:

Deleted the whole Canon Folder in (with backup)

    MACINTOSH HD > LIBRARY > PRINTERS > CANON >
    BJPrinter

    CUPSCAPT

    CUPSCMFP

    CUPSPS2

    IJScanner

    UFR2

Then installed the V3.55 again and added the LBP3010.

    New content is

    MACINTOSH HD > LIBRARY > PRINTERS > CANON >

    CUPSCAPT

Same error when clicking on printer preferences:

    I also added now

    MACINTOSH HD > LIBRARY > PRINTERS > CANON >

    UFR2

    and started the process

    UFR II BackGrounder.app

    in

    MACINTOSH HD > LIBRARY > PRINTERS > CANON > UFR2 > UTILITIES

The process is not shown in activity...

Will never buy a Canon again.

Why did you install the UFR2 driver??? Your printer does not use this driver so you've just complicated the issue...

The UFR2 Backgrounder needs to be running

    Because you wrote it...?
    Any other suggestions?

And so I did. Sorry about that. I was responding to another post re the UFR2 driver at the same time and confused myself.

So you definitely need to uninstall the UFR2 driver and supporting files. They are not used by this model. It is CAPT only.

Then with the CAPT driver, remove the current LBP30xx from Print & Scan because the print queue is wrong and it is not going to print.

Then open System Information, select the USB entry in the left pane and then in the top right pane, select the LBP. The bottom right pane will give information. Copy and paste back here please.
