How to view blu-ray on iMac and Apple TV

Hi,

I know this has been asked many times before but I searched the forum and can't find the answer. I just received a 27" iMac and Apple TV. I would like to play blu-ray on the iMac since I have a large collection of blu-ray discs. And I would like to send blu-ray (1080) to my tv via Apple TV. I converted all of my old DVD to MKV and have them on an external drive. 1) can I play blu-ray on the iMac (will this do the trick > http://www.macblurayplayer.com)

2) can I send MKV movies to my Apple TV and is MKV the same a 1080 high def blu-ray disc?

Apple computers cannot play Blu-Ray disks natively due to the format not being supported by the hardware or OS X software..

You can play them however they first have to be ripped to the computer, you will need a Blue Ray DVD burner and the correct software. Please contact OWC (www.macsales.com) and they will help you find a solution that will work. The previous poster is correct however work arounds are available.

it can't be done legally on the appletv

to add it to itunes you would need to remove it's drm

and to use airplay mirror you would also have to remore it's drm
