what is the default password for macbook pro

Hi all

I have just bought a MacBook Pro second hand on ebay. When trying to set up a user and password it is asking for the original password to enable me to proceed.

Can anybody throw some light on this for me?

By the way it is a MacBook pro 7.1

Intel core 2 duo

2.4GHz

Give it a try:

How to change your username and/or password from the Terminal

1. Boot into single-user or verbose mode

2. At the prompt enter the following commands. Press RETURN after each:

fsck -fy

mount -uw /

launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist

dscl . -passwd /Users/username password

Replace username with the targeted user and password with the desired password.

Reboot

This allows you to reset the password in single user mode without booting from the install media. The above tip is attributed to Satcomer.

You will still need to buy a Snow Leopard DVD or replacement discs for the computer:

You may very well be correct. After Re-Reading the OP it does sound like the new owner, the Original Poster, booted the system and wanted to create a new User with Password and is getting the authorization box from the original user account asking for the password to that account.

But if the seller did not include the original system discs with the system I'd send it back and give that advice to the OP.

Did the seller include the Original System discs with the system? There are two of them. A OS reinstall disc and a Applications reinstall disc.

If he didn't then I suggest you send it back.

But if you are set on keeping it then you need to contact Apple and Order Replacement System discs for it.

Otherwise you will have no way to reinstall the operating system, OS X, or reinstall the originally included iLife Apps.
