I want to use Airplay with MBA 2011 Apple TV and Mountain Lion in clamshell mode, but when I close the lid after 15 seconds the display on the external monitor disconnects from AirPlay. MBA is not set to go to sleep. Can anyone help? Thanks.

As far as I know, the only way to wake a MBA or MBP when it is in clamshell mode is with a bluetooth device or if you tick the setting under Energy Saver in Sys Prefs which allows it to be woken by an Administrator.
I have same issue. Airplay mirroring works with case closed when I have tv attached by HDMI cable, but when I try to watch the screen on my tv via airplay - closing the case turns it off. It would seem like an easy fix. Hope someone has an answer.

The only way i have managed to get around this is to install something called Insomnia X and use it to stop the macbook pro (retina) from going into sleep mode when the screen is closed. But i dont know how safe it is to do this for long periods of time.
