All you would've had to do was just ask the guy to sign a receipt before you gave him your money.  Since he was planning to rip you off he likely would've balked and then you could've just walked away.

Not to offend, but ... nice advice, a little too late.

The OP has a big problem right now, and needs to lose the "my grocery stroe does not run out of hamburger buns" attitude.  Rocky times ahead, unless the OP addresses shapes up.

I know it's late, but it could be useful in the future.

Are you serious. You are clueless as to how cell phones work. At&t doesnt give two craps that he has a phone under the lost or stolen list. I work for a cell phone company and the only thing that happens ONLY thing is that they will not activate the phone. They will not contact the so called owner of the phone, they WILL NOT press charges, they will not even so much as blink an eye about the situation. There is federal laws that prohibit any personal info to be shared about any customer or any person for that matter. I see this happen 5 days a week. There is no need to contact a lawer as nothing will happen without a written reciept. The guy is out that money and nobody cares. Yes its a nasty circle that nobody wins in but it cannot be controlled. At&t absolutely will not tell this guy he cant be a customer anymore because he has a so called stolen phone. They dont care. Stop telling people this crap as it is not true. His night is getting ruined for no reason.

The police dont care either. Big woop. They will not go after either party. They have things to do and not enough time or money to pursue this.

I was trying to drill into the OP how much your life can be messed up if ATT decides to *never* run the pretty little wires into your house so that you can have high-speed internet.  Or that the police may track down the hone nmubers called to get back to the OP.  The remarks I have seen indicate that the OP feels he/she can control the police/districtattorney/phonecompany.

Seems that is more important right now.

Don't confront the guy.  You have zero proof that you even gave him any money, so if talk to him he can go to the police and claim you stole the phone from him and are now harassing him, and the only record anybody has of anything is that you made some phone calls from his iPhone.

File a report with your local police, consult with a lawyer if you like, and then just write it off as an expensive lesson learned.

Agreed.  The OP can get assault charges if he/she gets "stupid" while contronting.  No offense intended ... I too would call the police to avoid risking legal problems because of losing control and getting "stupid".

If you do anything to him, it's far easier for him to prosecute you than for you to prosecute him.

I change my tune ... we are being played by someone who has nothing else to do tonight.

I think we have a troll.

    I am done with this.
