"Slide to power off" does not appear on screen when I long press the lock button.
Thanks for the reply amy_lou, but it looks like apple has now done away with the slide to power off feature. Every iPhone 5 Ive encountered (2 of mine and 2 of my friends) doesn't have that feature anymore. Whether apple intentionally meant to do it or not, I don't know.
Thanks! but What do you mean by "you can bypass the need to 'slide to power off' by resetting the device"? =) does it mean that I still can't recover or see the "slide to power off" on my screen when I long press the lock button?
If you're trying to power the device off, you can bypass the need to 'slide to power off' by resetting the device. Hold the home button and the sleep/wake button on top until you see the gray apple
You need to press both Home and Sleep/wake buttons at the same time. The power off slider should appear.
Thanks! So after doing that, will it bring back the "slide to power off" on my screen everytime I long press the lock button?
resetting the phone often fixes tiny glitches and unresponsive screens. If this fixes the problem, then that's great. If it doesn't bring back the 'slide to power off' bar, then you might have a software problem that needs troubleshooting
Correction. Reboot your iPhone as amy_lou suggested.
Okay I'll do it. 🙂 Thank you so much 😀
I'm not sure if it's an actual hardware problem. Both mine and my wife's Iphone 4s don't have the slide to power off anymore. It just resets after holding both buttons for awhile.
We just got 2 new Iphone 5s. Before I programmed the phone, I tried to have the slide to power off come up, but both phones just shut off completely without the bar coming up.
It isn't normal for the only way for you to power off the device is to do a full hard reset. It's only necessary to do a hard reset when your phone is freezing or has a glitch.
This is also a software problem, not a hardware problem. You could try doing a full restore through itunes to see if that fixes it
No restore will fix this because its like this to both my iPhone 5 right out of the box. Just confirmed with a friend who also got the new iPhone and his phone doesn't bring up the slide I power off menu.
to have your 5 show the 'slide to power off' animation, you hold down the sleep/wake button on top for a couple seconds, then it shows up on the top of the screen. It's not recommended for you to constantly be doing a hard reset of your phone. If your phone isn't showing the slide to power off when you follow the instruction I just gave you, it's not good
My wife's iPhone 5 gets the power off slider after the sleep/wake button is pushed and held a few seconds. I would have to say that there has to be a way to power off the iPhone or else you wouldn't be allowed bring it on a commercial airline. I have also noticed that pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time doesn't bring up the power off slider anymore after installing iOS 6.
Are you sure it's an IPhone 5? Because that comes preloaded with IOS 6.
For the sake of brevity, I didn't mention that my comment about post iOS 6 installation referred to an iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. I should have been clearer. My comment about the wife's iPhone 5 still stands.
