What is the app?  Does it still happen if you restart the Mac (or logout and login) and try again?

The app is for setuping up my Kobo which is an ereader. I've tried restarting the Mac, uninstalled and reinstalled the app a couple of time. It downloads fine but it wont open. I keeps saying it quit unexpectedly.

    I found this page

Sorry if I'm being to basic here, but I don't know your level of experience with using Macs...  If this is the app, it's the type of app that is installed by dragging it to your Applications folder.  That is Step 2 in the link above.  The download is a disk image that contains the app.  You can't run it from the disk image.  You need to copy it to your Applications folder, then run it from there.

Is that what you did to install this application...?

    Hi!

Yeah....after I do all that and it's in my application folder when I try to open it, it tells me it closed unexpectedly.  The file doesn't even open to close.

I had the app before and it worked fine but after I downloaded Mountain Lion, that when I began having problems so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I really appreciate you trying to help thanks!

It could be Mountain Lion.  Developers have had access to Mountain Lion beta builds for many months, so it seems like they would have worked out the bugs before release, especially a major bug that causes the app to crash. Make sure you are installing the latest version downloaded from the developer's web site, not a version that came with your Kobo device.

Sometimes, an app's preference file gets corrupted and the app crashes when it tries to read its preference file at launch.  So you can try deleting its preference file, so that the app can create a new one.

In Finder, from the menu bar, select Go -> Go to Folder.  Type

    /Users/<your user home folder name>/Library

replacing <your user home folder name>.

This will take you do your user account Library folder.  Go into the Preferences folder, and find the preference file for the Kobo app.  Its name will probabaly start with "kobo" or "com.kobo" or otherwise have "kobo" as part of the name, and end in ".plist".  Drag this file to the Desktop (so that it's no longer in the Preferences folder); don't trash it because if this is not the problem, you can put it back later.

Then, try running the Kobo app again.
