Aug 18, 2012 1:03 AM in response to ruddymanby léonie,★HelpfulIs your Aperture libray a referenced library (the original master image files stored outside the Aperture library)? What us your MacOS version and your Aperture version?
How exacly did you save your Aperture library to the external drive? It looks like the copy to that volume has been incomplete.
Also, an Aperture library needs to be on a locally connected volume. Apple advises against using a network volume for an Aperture library, see Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library.
Any volume you use with Aperture needs to be directly connected and formatted MacOS X extended or MacOS X extended (Journaled), otherwise you will be risking library corruption and data loss.
Check the formatting of your drive with Disk Utility.
As to your second question: A vault saves the Aperture library - your library items, like projects, books, albums, metadata, your version, and your managed original images - everything that is inside the library package, but not your referenced original master image files. So I assume, you have turned your Aperture library into a referenced library and moved the original master files from the library package by relocating them.
Please post back with more information on how you moved your library.

Léonie

Oct 23, 2012 10:26 PM in response to léonieby ruddyman,Thanks Leonie.
Much has happened since then. Some files were referenced , but it still doesnt quite explain the file sizes.
I have since moved all original files into aperture so none are referenced. So I now assume a file vault will be everything in Aperture ( I hope )
I have now done a vault to my external NAS drive. It shows the correct Gig size for everything. !!!!
I am told the Mybook live duo drives come macOS xtended journaled. I did try to check this in disc utility , but non of my 3 NAS drives show up. ( Thats my current problem )
Thanks for your time Leonie..
