Is it just me or does Preview no longer have the ability to highlight in balck? This was an immensely useful feature - for me at least - when redacting documents to print and submit for expense claims. I could get rid of any personal detail or irrelevancies not needed by my employer.
Any hacks or terminal-fu to get it back?
If I'm not wrong, you can use it. Press the pen icon in toolbar; then, press the line, choose the colour and thickness
Which line? Strikethrough? If so, there's no ability to change the characteristics of the strike even if you show the Edit Toolbar.

If you mean just use a chunky black line via the edit toolbar, it works but is a poor alternative to functionality that used to exist.
You're right. Black has disappeared from highlighting. You have to use a simple line
Draw a rectangle, then fill it with black from the Color menu in the edit toolbar.
Hey there. I appreciate the suggestion but I'm not looking for advice on how to use the app - Preview is pretty simple and the work arounds suck. I'm really hoping to find someone who has a:

It is not just black, it is any other colour besides the presets. Preview used to allow the user to select highlight colors from the color picker. This is no longer the case.
Well this hasn't been fixed in 10.9 Mavericks either.
