how do I use a 3.5" disk to install software?
I have a 3.5" disk for software installation, but I am uncomfortable just sticking it into the drive without knowing that it will take it and eject it when it is finished.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Don't, your Mac's Optical Drive only takes standard size DVDs and CDs.
see > Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
Instead, go the the Manufactures web site and look for the latest OS X software.

Mac's haven't shipped with floppy drives since 1999.
