Sky Sports TV App subscription problems

Hi All

I had subscribed to the Sky Sports TV app on my iphone but then had to have the phone replaced (it overheated). When I then tried to use the app again on my new phone (subscription via iTunes still being paid), it didn't work. I was told by a Sky customer service person that the app is a bit of a halfway house situation, as the money side is handled by Apple. He suggested I let the subscription lapse and then it should sort things out.

Well, I tried to watch some football today and it hasn't been resolved. Way to go, Apple & Sky!

Has this happened to anyone else? My new phone won't play the streams because (correct me if I'm wrong) it isn't the one that was originally used to subscribe to Sky, but this was months ago - I let the subscription lapse as instructed but it's obviously not worked. There's probably a unique identifier or something that authorises the stream to play on the correct phone, but I am left here paying £4.99 for content I can't use.

Any help much appreciated. I have emailed Sky about this, hopefully between them these two massive corporations can spend a bit of time on the problem and I can watch football on my phone again!

As a follow up, here is Sky support's reply to my problem:

Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.

All I could advise is making sure you are using the Sky Sports TV app and not the old Sky Mobile App as they are different App's. Also the Mobile TV App is not avalible any more (since Sept 2011). I would suggest removing the App and re-installing it. If you are still having issues you would have to contact apple as this service is done by Apple not Sky, the service we offer is Sky Go.

As you can see, they are washing their hands of this as it is not paid to Sky but to Apple. I know all about the Sky Mobile TV app and this isn't what I am using. Getting desperate now.. Any ideas of what I can do?

No new developments today so looks like the Sunday football is a no-no on the phone, despite paying for it..

Sky as app developer are responsible for the app working correctly, but Apple are who I pay for the subscription. Neither care that this doesn't work. Sky don't offer much support as they really want customers to pay a minimum of £15 per month on their Monthly Ticket, rather than the £4.99 / £9.99 deal that the app offers.

The replacement iPhone 4S that I was supplied with after my original 4S overheated has never worked with this app. I think the MAC address of the overheated phone. or some other unique identifier, is causing it to think I'm trying to use the content on two units.

All I can say is what absolutely rubbish support from both companies.

Apple support and Sky support both replied later yesterday. Sky's reply was a step by step how-to for signing up for the app (a polite 'try again'!). I had an email from Apply informing me that my iTunes account had the subscription refunded due to the problems I'd been having using the service, which was good and justified I feel. I then resubscribed on a different Sky ID and thankfully everything works. Time to watch some football. Thanks to Cecille for her updates.
