Q: I can't get my new mac mini to pair with my wireless keyboard. I completed setup with another keyboard. The mini still won't pair with the keyboard. It paired with the trackpad with no issue. No other bluetooth computer nearby or even on.

I've done all the obvious. Turned keyboard on and off and back again. The keyboard transmits and sometimes the mac will see it but will not pair.

Is the other keyboard that you were able to pair with no problems, still connected? If so, try to unpair that one

The other keyboard wasn't bluetooth so no pairing. Actually, after my 120th try the keyboard finally paired. I have no idea what the real problem was in the end. Thanks anyway.

Okay. So I was having these problems. I kept getting error messages about how my keyboard couldn't connect.

Anyway, to help some people, here is what I figured out.

    1.  I have transferred my entire user folder from my old mac to my new mac mini using Migration Assistant. Essentially I had two copies of this user folder on two separate computers. As both computers were turned on,  I can see now how this could be confusing to achieving wireless keyboard nirvana.

    2.  My wireless keyboard had previously been paired with my old mac (though I hadn't been using for awhile).

    3.  I deleted any references to the keyboard in the "Bluetooth" preferences on both computers.  Still no luck, the keyboard kept trying to sync with my old computer, but gave me error messages for the new one.

    4.  Unplugged the bluetooth module of old computer.  I imagine you can just turn off the computer and it will do the same thing.

    5.  This seemed to work. I connected my keyboard successfully to the new mac MINI.

    6.  Changed the network name for my mac mini from the old name to "Lynda's Mac Mini".  Just click on "sharing" in System Preferences.

    Hope that helps anyone.  YMMV.
