Disk Utility File Count

When using Disk Utility, does the file count include the individual files in side the contents of an application? For example, if you examine the Contacts.app, there are over 1,000 files in the contents (most localizations).

Does Disk Utility count Contacts.app as one file or 1,000+ files?
