Aug 18, 2012 12:19 PM in response to warny15by rkaufmann87,Try these two things, open Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions on your HD. Do that step 2x, then restart in bookmarks folder bookmarks folder Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible you have a corrupt cache.

Tries safe mode but not sure saef mode actually started because never saw red "safe mode" indicator on grey screen (as I expected), how do I know safe mode has started?

Aug 19, 2012 12:44 AM in response to warny15by rkaufmann87,Please read Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore and you will know if the computer started in Safe Mode if you see a progress bar appear when OS X is loading. If you don't see the progress bar then you are NOT following directions.
