Finder beach balls/freezes, locking up my applications (Mountain Lion / rMBP)

A couple weeks after updating to Mountain Lion (haven't installed any app of significance since), often my laptop freezes due to what appears to be the finder locking up.

I have a Retina MBP, running Mountain Lion, connected to my home WiFi network.

Any ideas -- is this a known issue?

Separately -- I have a 2007 iMac, which after being updated to Mountain Lion no longer wakes from sleep, and has to be hard-reset in order to start.

An update... I have a feeling iCloud is behind this issue... after signing out of iCloud on the machine (so far -- I'm good). I also noticed apps like Preview tended to cause the issue to appear (which is iCloud enabled).

I've had the finder beachball for a while now (27" 2011 iMac with SSD + HD option). Turned off iCloud > Documents & Data. Back to being super fast!

The solution is to delete the ubiquity folder -- then restart your machine. After that, no more spinning beachballs -- and I was able to use icloud doc syncing again.

~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity/

I just want to report that signing out of iCloud fixed this issue for me.
