Hello I have a MBP that I purchased last year in September. I upgraded to Mountain Lion last week (v.10.8). I tried using the look up feature with the three finger tap and it isn't working. I tried to three-finger-tap words once and twice and it never worked. What could be the problem for this? I restarted my laptop multiple times and turned the feature on and off in the options.

Just so you know, three finger tap works for me on my MacBook Air (mid-2012). So it's not a universal problem.
I wonder if different sections of your trackpad have different sensitivity. Have you tried this in various trackpad areas?
Yes, I have tried it on multiple areas on my track pad, with my fingers rather flat than perpendicular to the trackpad etc. I also tried all the other gestures with my track pad and they all work perfectly fine except for the look up feature.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I can't believe that I'm the only one with that problem
System Preferences -> Trackpad -> Point & Click: enable Look up.
The three finger lookup took some practice. All three fingers must impact the pad at the same instant. My tracking speed is four ticks slower than Fast.
It is enabled. I really tried using it at this point probably more than 100 times. I don't think that I'm doing it wrong.
I just updated to Mac OS X v. 10.8.1 and it still doesn't work
Out of curiosity, what version did you upgrade from? The 3-finger tap lookup should have worked under Lion as well...
Does lookup still function for you using Command-Ctrl-D ?
And just to check, you've already tried to repair permissions as well?

The lookup function works perfectly if I use command-ctrl-d.
I tried to repair permissions before I updated to 10.8.1 and then again after installing the update.
I have a slightly different problem with the three-finger gesture for look up. When I tap with three fingers over a word, the baloon with the word information appears but it vanish immediately, so I can't actually read it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that this problem arose since I updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.1. Before, I hadn't any problem with the three finger tap neither with Lion nor Mountain Lion 10.8.
After restarting my computer, the three-finger tap worked again normally. Please disregard my previous complain.
And other 3-finger gestures work okay? Mission Control, desktop switching, etc?
yes, all the other 3-fingers gestures are working perfectly
You said you purchased it in September last year, have you tried bouncing this off anyone at the Genius bar? I admit I'm at a loss why this one feature doesn't seem to function properly for you. Almost like there's a driver issue, the hardware not integrating properly with the OS... I've been digging around, but haven't come across anyone else with your exact issue yet. Sorry 😟
I had read something about holding your whole palm on the touchpad for 5 seconds to "recalibrate" it, but I don't know if that would help you any.
