i'm trying to move pictures from my ipod and SD card from my old phone to my computer and then move them to my iphone, but instead of going to my camera roll, it makes a whole bunch of small albums under photos... i dont want to have to individually send over 500 pics to myself via email and then save them to my camera roll from there. please help

You cannot sync pictures from the computer to the camera roll. The iPhone and iTunes are not designed like this. The camera roll is designed to temporarily store the pictures you take with the iPhone until you import them to the computer, like any digital camera. If you sync photos from the computer, they will be stored in whatever folder grouping you tell iTunes to sync when the iPhone is connected to the computer.
One other question, why is it necessary to save the photos to the camera roll?

Import all the photos to your computer, put them in a single folder, the sync this folder to your phone by selecting it on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.
If you're really set on getting them in Camera Roll try PhotoSync, which will transfer photos wirelessly to Camera Roll.
