ClamXav uninstall not working - clamd engine still active

Hi Folks,

I had before ClamXav as antivirus, removed it uncorrectly by only deleting the program and have now the issue that the engine is still active and takes a lot of CPU / Memory.

I downloaded the engine remover script from ClamXav, put it on my harddrive, ran it from there, rebooted but the clamd is still active and using most of my memory. I don´t know any more what to do ...

Any idea?

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Hi Carlo,

I installed as mentioned and .... I can´t uninstall as the "x" next to the item doesn´t appear. But it doesn´t appear in any other App either - so it seems I don´t hit the right option key (no. 3 from bottom left). All Apps "juggle" when I hold down the option key, but none shows the "x" next to it. Has that something to do with my recent Mountain Lion installation?

Thanks for your help so far!

That is wierd. I do not think you have to be logged in with your apple id (see pic). Yup that is the button... the option key (no 3 from the left). If you press it while in launchpad, you should see little "x"'s appear next to the iconds in addition to the jiggling. The "x" only appear on those items downloaded from the app store. Try this: go to spotlight (command+spacebar) and type in "disk utily" and click repair permisions after selecting your hard dirve. Then restart the computrer, and go into launch pad, and press the option key. Do you see them now? If not... one other option I can think of: (and it is recomended to have a backup of your data - using timemachine before doing this 🙂 so it is up to you if you decide to do this with out having a backup (just in case you don't have a back up). Restart the computer, hold down the command+R keys at the same time when the computer is starting up (but just before seeing the apple logo) and click reinstall OS X. I dont have any other suggestions. You will not loose any data, but it will repair something if something is wrong. I wish I could tell you more.

First thing to do is quit ClamXav Sentry (if you use it) and make sure it's not set to launch at log in. You will then need to find the ClamXav disk image which you downloaded when you installed ClamXav (or download the current one again) as you will find an uninstaller application on that disk.

The uninstaller will remove the engine and any schedules you've got set up. All that's left is to drag ClamXav.app to the trash.
